About Counselling
People seek counselling for many different problems. Whatever the problem
it can be helpful to talk about it with someone who can listen sensitively
to
you as you explore your difficulties. I am not there to judge or criticise
you, or to offer advice, but to work with you to help you to understand your
difficulties.
People often ask – How can talking help? What I need is
to get on and deal with my problem!
When we have a particularly difficult
problem in our lives we often think that we know all about it – indeed
we usually think we know too much about it! In fact, though, we usually get
obsessed about particularly difficult
or
frightening aspects of the problem and forget about the rest. Talking
things over with a counsellor can help to face the really difficult parts
and to think about aspects you may have forgotten about. When you have
got a different
way of thinking about your difficulties then you can decide more easily
what to do about them.
How does it work?
Usually we will meet together two or three times to get to
know one another and to decide if we feel that we can work together productively.
We
will meet on the same day and at the same time each week. Your appointment
will last for 50 minutes.
My fees are currently £30–£40 per session, including the assessment sessions.
This covers the time I take to prepare for our meetings, my time spent in supervision,
and in professional development, as well as the counselling session itself.
